One of our most popular absinthe spoons, this spoon is made from high quality stainless steel with great line definition. The spoon was originally designed for Toulouse Lautrec and bears the insignia of Lautrec's famous initials at the top of the grill. Lautrec loved absinthe so much that he had a special compartment built inside his "walking stick" to hold a bottle of absinthe. The original is one of the rarest antique absinthe spoons. It is an exact reproduction of this late 19th century absinthe spoon.
This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on the glass and a sugar cube on the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.
