These mouth-blown absinthe glasses, a reproduction of the Torsade (twisted in French), were originally made for use in bars and are considered the most popular style of absinthe bar glass before prohibition (pre-1915). To this day, it is the most widely used antique absinthe glass in France.
These glasses are made to the same measurements as the original Torsade absinthe glasses, including their reservoir. The reservoir (located at the bottom of the glass) is used to measure the amount of absinthe to be added. This measured dose helps the bartender know the exact amount of absinthe to add, while helping the customer know that it's an honest pour. The size of the reservoir generally correlates with the size of the glass used, as the ratio of water to absinthe varies according to the drinker (generally 3 to 5 parts water to 1 part absinthe). The reservoir measures 50 ml, which is the norm for an absinthe glass of this size. These glasses also tend to have a slightly larger reservoir than other older absinthe glasses.
It's machine-molded, so it's thick and strong - ideal for intensive use in a bar or restaurant.
