This star-shaped grid works well on most any size glass. Thanks to the large open grid, sugar and water can easily drip into the absinthe glass. The three arms sit on the glass and hold your sugar cube. This is an exact reproduction of a late 19th or early 20th century absinthe spoon.
This grid is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe grill on the glass and a sugar cube on top of the grill. Ice-cold water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or rocker over the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the grate into the glass of absinthe, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.
