This magnificent leaf-shaped absinthe spoon is a reproduction of an antique considered very rare and quite elusive by collectors. The slight curvature of the grid creates a kind of funnel, which helps to concentrate the sweet water towards the center of the spoon as it falls into the absinthe glass. Its attractive design makes it one of our most popular.

This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on top of the glass and a sugar cube on top of the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.
