This unique spoon has one of the largest grids of all our absinthe spoons. Under the tip of the spoon are two prongs that hook onto the edge of the glass to prevent the spoon from moving. The spoon was inspired by the increasingly popular modernist designs of the time. It is an exact reproduction of a late 19th century absinthe spoon.
This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on the glass and a sugar cube on the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.
