One of our most popular absinthe spoons, this spoon is gold-plated on high-quality stainless steel with excellent line definition. The spoon was originally designed for Toulouse Lautrec and features the insignia of Lautrec's famous initials at the top of the grill. Lautrec loved absinthe so much that he had a special compartment built inside his "canne" to hold a bottle of absinthe. The original is among the rarest of all antique absinthe spoons. It is an exact reproduction of this late 19th century absinthe spoon.
This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on top of the glass and a sugar cube on top of the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to turn milky white as the water mixes with the anise.
