This item is a B-Stock listing. These pyrogenes are B-Stock due to imperfections. These imperfections may include: twisted/discolored lines and/or text, the decal (illustration) may be crooked and/or other defects. These imperfections do not affect the functionality of the pyrogen.

This pyrogen is a reproduction of those found throughout Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In those days, it was common to see a match striker sitting on a bistro or bar table. The strikers had three objectives. Firstly, the hollowed-out top was used to store matches. Secondly, its side or base (with its ribbed surface) was used to strike and ignite the match. And finally, the piece was used for advertising. Many distilleries used these match strikes to promote their spirits, and they were usually provided free at the bar.

White-tipped, or "strike-anywhere," matches are strongly suggested and can be purchased here. Ordinary household matches (shown) will not light, as white-tipped matches are required. Strikers can also be used to hold a variety of items, such as toothpicks.
