This very popular and attractive spoon features the word "ABSINTHE" stamped into its grid. Sugar is placed on this cut-out to allow sugar water to pass through the spoon once cold water is added. The spoon is not a reproduction of an antique, but rather a cross between an original and a modern absinthe spoon.

This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on the glass and a sugar cube on the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.
