These European-made wrapped sugar cubes are used in cafés and bistros all over Europe. Our pressed sugar cubes are the ideal way to sweeten your absinthe.

In the pre-ban era (before 1915), it was rare to find anyone drinking absinthe without first sweetening it. That's why there are so many old accessories and ways of adding sugar to absinthe. Absinthe is, and always has been, made to be enjoyed according to one's own tastes, so the amount of sugar used is purely by preference of the drinker.

Due to the high alcohol content of absinthe, sugar will not dissolve in the liqueur without first being diluted with water. For this reason, the water is slowly poured over a sugar cube, allowing the sugar water to fall into the absinthe glass and mix with the absinthe. In 19th-century France, the French were known for their sweet tooth, and sugar was also used to reduce the bitterness of absinthe. It was frowned upon to drink absinthe without sugar during the pre-banned period.
